- Actually it was 'invented' by AT&T, who had it on the market for about a year
- before USR picked it up. I've also heard that Penril and Zypcom build 33.6
- 'V.34+' modems.

- I believe that the Cardinal uses a Rockwell data pump (i.e., only USR does
- V.FC without the Rockwell data pump), so the modulation code is mask-
- programmed into the DSP chip. If that's correct, then the flash ROM affects
- only the controller code and you cannot modify the modulation features without
- replacing the RC288DP chip as well as flashing new controller code.
